An Eventful Year leading to a Brave New World

As usual, the card depicts a composite of some of this years activities. More pictures can be found elsewhere on this website depicting the Garden Progress and Rainhill Trials of Easter and August.
March this year saw the anticipated announcement of Phil`s redundancy from Training, and steps were already in hand to set up Fillin Limited as a replacement activity: offering low cost programme production and editing facilities; but so far beneficially preoccupied with System`s Installation and Training work.
It is hoped to develop the programme production side during next year.
The Gardening Leave was put to literal use, and after all these years, the Live Steam Rocket(s) actually ran again, on their new trackbed at the bottom of the garden (4 tonnes of gravel). The first rerun of the Rainhill Trials saw the Rockets outclassed by Peter Cottrell`s Meccano-based Novelty Steam Engine, but later in the year, coaches were succesfully pulled around the circuit. A new patio area was also completed, and a wooden floor laid in the conservatory. However, the kitchen still has to be finished!

The Card:

On the left are scenes from our Scandinavian Holiday in July: A Danish reconstructed Viking Longhouse, and moving home Viking Style, surmounted by the statues of Men Looking Out to Sea at Esjberg.
This year we treated ourselves to the luxury of a new tent: spacious accommodation with 3 bedrooms, and the height to stand up - when we weren`t sitting reading, and drinking Mexican Red Wine.
In September, Phil took the tent, on his own, to Amsterdam for an economical visit the IBC trade show. We saw only one Zaphira whilst on holiday, and patiently awaited Lin`s arriving in November.
While camping in Denmark, we swam at the campsite, but the lake shown here is Hidden Valley in Devon where we had a family gathering for Mum`s birthday in April.
On the right are some elements of the Spiegelhalter Tour of Southern England: Corfe Castle, English Saxon reconstructions, and Stonehenge, with guest appearances of our parents.
Tiggy is making herself at home in the MCMXCIX, and this years` purchase from the Swedish Glass Factories (Mats Jonasson - Målerås Sverige) is the crowning symbol of hope for the new Millenium: We hope that we will all have a bright new future in the new Millenium.
The skyline is taken from the Eclipse, as seen from Bodmin Moor, which was the first outing of Fillin Limited filming an event - partially obscured by cloud. Lin`s Travels were to Peterborough (6 weeks) and Phil`s to Cairo, Amsterdam, Switzerland and Kazakstan.
